Roumain In Residence I

April 14, 2015

We are thrilled to present part one of Composing Creativity, an inclusive, approachable exploration of creativity in music taking place right now in Iowa. The goal of this project is to connect listeners of all ages and backgrounds with the artistic process through contemporary composition and performance.

Our guide for this journey through artistic inspiration is boundary-smashing violinist and composer Daniel Roumain, wcfsymphony’s 2015 artist-in-residence. In featuring Daniel and his music – much of which draws on contemporary themes from race to hip hop – we hope to shape perceptions of the arts as relevant, exciting, and meaningful to our world.

During a special two week residency Daniel performs his own music and introduces a brand new guide to the orchestra composed especially for this occasion. He also brings his imaginative music and electrifying personality to local elementary schools ahead of our Youth Concerts.

View the photos and video for a look inside our work with students, along with Daniel’s impression of our community and his thoughts on the work we are doing together.
