A special free open rehearsal and Q&A

Meet the Artists

Thursday, October 3 // 7:30PM - 8:30PM

Meet pianist Conor Hanick and hear him rehearse John Adams’ exciting and challenging Century Rolls with wcfsymphony. Conor is one of today’s leading young explorers of living music and has a wealth of experience performing Adams’ rhythmically complex music. He also grew up just down the road in Iowa City! When the orchestra takes its break Jason Weinberger will join in to answer your questions about the rehearsal process for our opening-night gala performance.

Performance: Opening-Night Gala: Bolero

This amazing program, inspired by the meeting of music and technology, features the talents of our players in Ravel’s mesmerizing Bolero and rarely-heard music by Beethoven. Iowa native Conor Hanick joins us for John Adams’ exuberant and jazzy Century Rolls for piano and orchestra, the perfect counterpoint to Jason Weinberger’s solo performance of New York Counterpoint by Steve Reich.
